Lionel Messi admits he’s not too obsessed with scoring goals

Jakarta (threeriversburghblog) – Lionel Messi admits that at this stage of his career he is “less obsessed with scoring goals” and more focused on being a team player.

The 33-year-old is Barcelona’s all-time top scorer. He scored 635 goals in 734 games and made 256 assists during his 16-year career at Camp Nou.

The captain of the Argentina national team has become more and more adept at providing assists to his teammates in recent years. Last season he broke the record for the most assists in a single La Liga season, 21.

“At the moment I’m not obsessed with goals, I try to contribute as much as possible to the team,” he told Garganta Poderosa magazine, as quoted by Goal on Friday.

Messi also highlighted the community work that is taking place in his home country, Argentina, to combat the effects of the coronavirus.

“In this pandemic, we need to protect all basic needs like water, food and electricity,” he added.

“I am proud to see the way people in Argentina are engaged in working in soup kitchens and dining rooms, especially in difficult times like ours.”

“Inequality is the biggest problem in our society and we must all work together to fix it.”

Messi reportedly donated around 1 million euros (17.2 billion rupees) earlier this year to help fight the coronavirus pandemic. The funds were used for a hospital in Barcelona and medical facilities in his home country.

Messi also said that all of the trophies Barcelona won this year will be presented to those fighting COVID-19.

“The Copa (America) that will be named this year should be able to help everyone involved in this way,” he said.

Messi has scored one goal in three games for Barca this season after reiterating his intention to leave the Spanish club in the 2020 summer transfer market.
